Black Male College Explorers Program (BMCEP) Application

PURPOSE:
The goals of the program are to: improve the academic performance; reduce chronic absenteeism and increase the graduation rate in the state of Florida and beyond for Black males of color.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Black Male College Explorers Program is a progressive intervention program designed specifically to prevent black males from dropping out of high school; facilitate their admission to college; and significantly increase their chances of earning a college degree. Middle and high school students from Tallahassee and cities throughout the state of Florida are selected for participation. Participating schools, agencies and partners are asked to identify males enrolled in grades 8 through 11. Florida A&M University provides four to six weeks of intensely focused academic and personal developmental experiences designed for black males during the summer. Courses include academic subjects, English, Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology, Chemistry and ACT/SAT Test Preparation, weekly character education seminars, workshops and motivational trips during the summer (where possible).
ELIGIBLITY REQUIREMENTS:
A black male student, who at the beginning of the summer 2020 session is in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade; with grade point average that does not adequately represent the potential of the student, or the propensity to display irregular behavior, has the potential to benefit from intensive instruction and mentoring, and a willingness to consider postsecondary education after high school.
*The entire APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED “no exception” and mailed with an official copy of the student’s transcript.
